September 6/10

Jackson came into the Kamloops pound as a stray, with his brother Griffin. They are a very bonded pair, and roughly around a year old.
Both have been transferred to GSRBC, and have since been neutered and had their vaccinations brought up to date.
They are likely mixed with some husky, and of the two, Jackson shows more of the GSD traits. He is a little more aloof in his dealings with people, though does love his affection and attention from those he loves.
With strangers, he is more suspicious and on initial meeting, can be somewhat guardy. However, after that first 20 seconds, he seems unconcerned and is more than willing to check them out and make casual friends from a distance. haha.

Jackson and Griffin have spent their entire lives together. They are the only constant in each other's lives. They are very bonded, overly so, and unfortunately, this is a union that must be broken up.

Other than each other, this little team has never been socialized to other dogs, and while it's doubtful they will actually be aggressive, they are for sure a force to be reckoned with, with all that hoopla at the end of the leash.
They have some prey drive, so neither will be available to a home with small animals. Due to their high energy and rudeness (at the moment) they will also not be available to a home with young children. They'd just mow them right down.

Having said all that, both of these boys have the biggest hearts in the world. They bond well with people, and while they are still very young and unfocused, they will be really great companions with someone who is active and willing to put some time into training.
They love to be loved, love to be with you, and never stray very far.

Life hasn't handed these boys the best it has to offer yet, and we're hoping to turn that around for them. They are just unsocialized punks at the moment - haha - but very much worth the effort. They are soulful, dedicated and loving.
If you are looking for a deep bond with your dog, want the energy in a friend to go hiking, biking, jogging with - Jackson or Griffin would be an easy fit.

Of the two of them, Jackson is much more laid back and calm in his demeanor. He wants to be with Griffin more than he wants to be with people right now, but that will change once we are able to get one of them into another location. Jackson has relied on Griffin pretty much his whole life for any kind of direction or how to act in any situation. Griffin isn't always the best role model! lol

That is not to say that Jackson isn't bonding, because he is. But given his choice, he would surely pick his brother over any human being.

When Griffin isn't around, Jackson gets on well with almost all dogs. He is curious, calm and goofy! He spend a day playing with Sydney, a little female GSD pup, and then the spent the next day trying to find her again :) He was quite smitten!

On his own, he does well with his training and walks fairly good on leash. Like his brother, he will play ball for hours, and uses his nose for everything! He would excel at any kind of tracking, but isn't as busy as Griffin when it comes to agility or being a running partner. He's usually always a few paces behind and always gives up whatever the resource is to Griffin.

January 2011

Jackson and Griffin have come such a long way in these past few months. They have spent many days in the house, since it's been so cold in the kennel, and we're happy to report that they have done amazingly well!

Both appear to be house trained and have only had one accident initially when they were brought inside. Since then, there has been nothing.

They are crate trained and will each run into their crate as soon as you say the word. They are happy to do so and will wait patiently to be let out again.

We've started each of them in basic obedience and they know very basic stuff such as sit, down, stay (needs work) give paw, stand, crate and wait. On their own, they do nicely walking on a loose leash but they still have work to do.

Originally we thought that they must be split up in order to be adopted, and this can certainly still be the case, but often we suggest this because two dogs bonded at this level, often don't attach well to their people. We worried that they were too dependant on each other, and would always be the terrible twosome when it came to other dogs.

This has not been the case at all. Both these guys bond well, and deeply. They just enjoy each other so much as well! Their integration into our pack has been slow and easy, and all has gone well. Griffin seems to drive things up a bit more than Jackson, who really doesn't want any problems. Neither does Griffin actually, as he is quite submissive. But both have the mentally that everyone wants to be slammed and run over, cause that is what they do to each other!

Life is just one big party if you are Griffin or Jackson. They are just so, so happy in everything they do and have loads of energy to burn. They will definitely need an active home that loves to be out doing things with their dogs and will continue to socialize them to the big world out there.

June 2011

Sadly, we have split Jackson and Griffin up and they are now in separate foster homes. In some ways, it has been the best thing for them, as at least now they are in homes instead of kennels, and they are learning more about the outside world, as well as gaining house manners.

But the split has been hard on them. Ok.... maybe it has been harder on us to split up two very bonded brothers.. However, they each do have new dog friends in their new placements, and they are adjusting.

Soon they will be able to go forward into new homes and make new friends again. In the meantime, we will continue to take great care of them and continue on in their training.

ackson is now a Pender Island boy and has been accepted into the ever-growing GSRBC alumni clan over there.

He has already been to a few T-Touch sessions and soon will be off to try tracking! Between meeting new friends, learning to be a full time house dog, and all the activities he will be involved in, we're sure he won't have time to miss Griffin too much!

August 2011

Jackson has been enjoying summer camp here on the island. With lots of hiking, walking, swimming and playing with friends … What more could a guy ask?? Everyone he meets is impressed by this handsome boy and his gentle nature.

Jackson is the perfect guest. He is respectful of his housemates both human and canine. Although he loves to play and is full of energy, he settles quickly in the house. Jackson listens well and tries to do the right thing. He is calm when meeting new dogs of all shapes and sizes. Jackson needs time and space when meeting people as he is a bit nervous of people who approach too quickly or crouch over him. But once he realizes that you mean him no harm he often asks you to play. We are working hard to curb his "Houdini" escapades and lessen his anxiety when he is left alone.

A very quick learner, Jackson is continuing to practice his obedience skills. This giant puppy works hard to sit/stay, down/stay, but, his recall is great. Jackson played well with some children that visited us recently.

This handsome boy would do well in an active home where someone can spend lots of time with him and help him become the incredible dog that he is meant to be. If you are looking for a loyal and loving companion who will enjoy all your activities, Jackson is your guy. But only the perfect match will do for this special boy.
If you have room in your heart and home for this loving boy, send us an email!

September 2011

Jackson has 'turned his paw' to trying out the dog sport of Agility!

He is very keen to get started right away and especially loves the tunnels. He takes the jumps easily and is highly motivated by his ball as a reward. :)

Unfortunately, some of the stations require him to slow down... which of course, is not his strong suit!

However, after a couple of sessions, Jackson's confidence continues to grow as he is trying new things, and interacting with different people and lots of dogs of different sizes.

He's been doing well in all regards and we are very proud of our boy!

It has been one year now since Jackson and his brother have come into our care... We just can't understand it as both of them are so loving and handsome.

Whoever gets the opportunity to add Jackson into their home will not doubt fall madly in love with this very special boy :)

 October 2011

Jackson continues to wait patiently for his very own "forever" home. In spite of his history, I am amazed at his love of life … he is always in a good mood. Every morning he cuddles up close asking, "Is it okay to get up now?" then he bounds down the stairs wondering "What are we doing today?" Game for anything, he loves car rides the most. He waits to be invited in and out of the vehicle and is a quiet passenger.
Walking on leash takes practice as he is very keen to get where ever we are going but for the most part, and few reminders, he walks with a loose leash especially when his foster brother or sister comes along.

We are constantly impressed at how much he has changed over the time that he has been with us. Jackson's confidence in new situations grows daily and he works hard to please us. It is great to see him less worried about meeting new people. He does very well when people ignore him and he is able to approach them in his own time.
Jackson is well behaved in the house and rarely barks. Even when the other two have been alerted by some real or imaginary sound, Jackson often uses this diversion to get that unattended toy.

Although Jackson, at times, appears to be quite independent from the other dogs, their presence is reassuring for him and he takes important cues from them. But most of all and more than anything, Jackson loves to be with his people. He will make the most fabulous companion for someone ready to share all of this world's wonderful adventures.
Jackson, with his unconditional love deserves nothing but the best life has to offer.

 December 2011

I know that Jackson's Christmas wish is to find that very special forever home. He really is EVERYTHING anyone could want from a canine companion. Jackson is responsive, gentle, loves life, and is game for anything and everything!

In the house he is calm, gentle, and respectful of the other dogs but always ready to play. He takes his cues from the other dogs as he and Reugger have become great friends.

Jackson settles into whatever activity is going. Whether we are busy working at a project or sitting quietly, he's there. But, when the leash comes out … "look out world", his famous 'spinorama' starts and he is ready to go … He is the first one to sit "patiently" by the door … well 'patiently' by Jackson's standards...

He is a great traveller and sits quietly during the car ride as he enjoys watching the world go by. When we reach our destination he waits to be invited out of the vehicle, then the game is on! We do lots of traveling on the ferry and in line ups. Jackson doesn't mind people walking by the car. We make frequent stops where he can run and play with his favourite ball and then back in the car for the next leg of the trip.

Jackson is very affectionate and is always looking for a cuddle. It truly breaks our hearts that Jackson hasn't found that special home yet. But he is so very ready for his own family and he deserves the best!!

March 2012

Jackson is doing GREAT!
He fits into our household fabulously. Reugger, (his foster brother) who is often unsure of everything new, absolutely loves him and the 2 of them play, wrestle and chew on each others' head constantly. They have even begun to share a bed and the couch.
Jackson is extremely respectful of Zeeva, the matriarch of the pack, being gentle and giving her lots of space. Jackson is still not too sure if she really means it when she initiates play and often waits to see what Reugger's reaction will be.

Jackson goes everywhere with me. At one time it was out of necessity as he didn't do well left on his own, but now he goes with me because he is so much fun to travel with. He is polite and quiet in the vehicle and waits patiently when there are errands to be run. All we need for a break is a big field and his favourite toy. We hop out of the truck, he "does a few laps" dropping the ball at my feet as we throw & fetch, over and over again. Finally "It's time to go, Jackson", he'll grab his ball, head to the truck and wait to be let in. Jackson hops up, gets a drink and we're back on the road until the next stop.

Everyone knows Jackson. We are the first ones to Monday Morning Dog Club and the last ones to leave. He will play with anyone that will throw his ball and he is patient when the other dogs try to steal it. Not many dogs are faster to the ball than he is, but they often try to take it away. Jackson doesn't guard it, he just waits 'til they drop it and it's his again !!!

Jackson is so ready for that perfect home where someone is willing to spend the time with him exercising his body and mind. Jackson is very keen to learn and oh so willing to love!
