Chelsey was a young female that spent her entire 3 years in a 4x6 pen. She was used for breeding purposes, and when it became too much for the owners, they were selling her off to anyone that wanted to take her and continue to breed.

We saw the ad for an intact female and our hearts sunk. We had no other choice… we went and bought her, and had her spayed immediately.

Chelsey broke all of our hearts. It was very clear that she had never been inside a home, as walking on the floor for her was like a skating rink. The stairs terrified her, the vacuum was a force to be reckoned with, and the phone ringing was a definite cause for alarm.

After a few months, she gained her confidence took to the stairs like a pro! She didn’t hesitate to race around the house with her foster brother.
Playing is still something new to Chelsey, and this sweet, sweet girl is getting her second (or possibly her first) puppy hood. She loves to steal the ball away from her foster brother by tricking him into dropping it so she can grab it and run off; she is very clever and it is a joy to watch her grow.

Chelsey loves going for walks and does very well on the lead with very little pulling. While she is very quick to learn commands and the house rules, the best thing for Chelsey would be an obedience class to help build her confidence and trust.
She still has the odd accident indoors but with so many dramatic changes in this dear soul’s life, it is to be expected for a while yet. She really seems to like the cats and does focus on them quite a bit, it would be best if she were to co-habitate with a dog confident cats as she will give chase if they run and may that may frighten them.
Chelsey is ready for her new forever home where she will be given her right to have all of what she deserved in life and has never had before. Slowly but surely, with the help from her foster home, Chelsey grew into the strong and confident dog she was intended to be.

We’re still not to sure if her forever home thanks us or curses us for this, (ha ha) but we are sure that she is valued, she is safe and she is very loved.

Go easy on them Chelsey!

March 2005 Update:

A friend, just minutes ago, gave Chelsey a new rubber dog ball & she is having a terrific time with it. She seems to know to let it drop from her mouth, then it bounces, & she chases & catches it. All Charlie's toys & new ones we've bought for her have been destroyed with her tough chewing, but this one looks like it's a keeper. And her Kong-but she isn't that fond of it. Actually, I've put Charlie's special toys away for a bit, as he is such a soft mouthed dog & likes stuffed toys. She chewed a couple, so the others are away till she is a bit less a chewer, if that ever happens. We are lucky, though, she never chews anything that is not a toy-well, except the cat! No, just nibbles!
Sure hope these lovely dogs find homes, & soon.
And yes, our Chelsey is a real beauty.
Bonnie
