Lady's family can no longer keep her and she finds herself needing a new home.

She is a smart girl, who is just under 2 years old. She happy go lucky and full of energy. Everyone is a friend to Lady and she just loves to play, play play!
She will however, need some obedience for basic manners as she does not know how to walk on a leash or do some other basic things. She lives in the country and has had the freedom of trails and parks to play in.
We're told she is house trained, but is still a pup and will chew if left alone.
She's great with other dogs and most all other animals as well, as she currently lives on a hobby farm.

Lady's owner does love her and wants what is best for her. We agree that a new home is the right thing.
If you are looking for a great dog to become a member of your family, and are willing to put in a little work to get her trained, please contact us for more information on this very deserving girl.
***Obedience with Lady will be a requirement of adoption***

Lady was adopted September 4th 2005

September update:

Here is the first official photo of the new, best buddies.  Emily and Willow (yes, that's what we decided on - I couldn't take the name Lady much longer) have been an instant hit.  Em feels a bit put out when Willow takes over the whole loveseat, but I'm sure they will work it out!  There have been tons of licks and hugs between all of us.

Willow did very well last night.  No barking, no whining.  Nothing.  We had her over at a neighbors last night for an outside movie night (a two year tradition on the Labour Day weekend) and she did great.  She met a couple of the neighborhood hounds and they got along well.  That is until one of the local cats decided it would be fun to sit on the fence and tease Willow.  I almost had my arm ripped off!  She responded well to commands, though, but still, we thought that will the big crowd, she might feel better at home.

She settled down fairly quickly.  She stayed in the living room all night, and didn't come up stairs until about 6:30 this morning - what a way to wake up when you're not used to it.  She jumped up on the bed and bathed both Shari and I until I got up and took her outside.  We ended up playing tug-of-war for about 45 minutes.  Not something I want to be doing at dawn, but we're hoping she'll adjust to OUR schedule sooner than later.  Shari took her for an hour long walk this morning and she was quite good on the leash.  She seems to be pulling less and less each time we take her out.

When we were at Petsmart last night (had to buy toys!), we took her in and she was swarmed by tons of people - they just loved her and she loved the attention.  I think we should have called her Sponge - she just soaked it all up.  Today, we're taking her to an totally fenced off-leash park in Langley to see if it will be suitable for her at this stage.  A couple in the petstore told us about it.  Apparently its about 5 acres with a gated fence all around.  If it looks secure, I think we'll let her off to play.  We're hoping our friends with the golden retrievers will join us as I know they would love to play with Willow.

So far, she's turned her nose up at the raw food.  We've offered it four times so far, and no interest at all.  We've got some non-wheat based kibble that we're holding in reserve if it looks like she's getting too hungry.  Any advice as to how long it might take her to actually start eating the raw stuff?

We'll keep you up to date with progress.  Thanks again for putting us together.  I know this will work out perfectly.

Talk to you soon,
Darrel, Shari and Emily.

October 29th Update:

Hi, Kelly.  Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know how things have been going with Willow.  She is doing very well.  She's been through 5 obedience classes with one more to go.  She's
responded pretty good to the structured pace of training, but she hasn't enjoyed all of it, that's for sure.  Its like she's having to give up her independence - almost as if she's our kid instead of our pet!  All in all, though, she is doing great.  We're going to put her in the next round of training as well and then look at agility training in the new year, depending on how well she does in the next class.  From what we've been told by our friends who are into agility with their dogs, the basic obedience needs to be pretty much mastered before the agility stuff will work.  We'll see.

Our cats seem to be coming around, or at least one of them.  Willow has met up with Dante a number of times and Dante will not back down.  Its amazing the kinds of noises that come out of a cats mouth
- kinda like a horror movie!  Willow doesn't quite know how to deal with it so she just backs away.

Hope all is well with you and yours.  We've been looking through your website often and just about bawled when we read about Finnegan.
What a sad story.  I hope he's doing well.  We've actually been talking about getting a second dog so that Willow has a playmate at home.  She just loves playing with other dogs and when she's been at the dog park or at daycare, we can be guaranteed a good nights sleep - she gets exhausted!  We figure if we get another dog, it will cut down costs for daycare for her.  We don't like leaving her alone all day, but the few times we've had no choice, she has been fantastic.  She gives wonderful greetings when we get home!

Let us know how things are going.  I recall from your newsletter that you were going to be out here in Cloverdale as some kind of pet fair, but I can't find the newsletter.  I'll look on your website and see if its there.  Maybe we could bring Willow over to see you!

Take care,
Darrel
