Luke is a lovely 5 year-old GSD mix. He has been with us since August of

2004, which we have a hard time understanding. Luke is very well-mannered

in the house, sits and comes when he is called. He is usually not very far that

we have to actually call him over though! haha He's house-trained, up-to-date

with all vet care, and already neutered. He plays well with the other dogs, and

is very good with children, though he does have a "swing set" issue, so we will

not place him with small children. Like most dogs, he does not understand the

concept of his people flying through the air. It scares him. Luke has the most

endearing quality of being a snuggle bug with lots of sweet GSD kisses. He is

the sweetest boy we've come across in a long while.

Luke's long wait is finally over. He leaves for his new home and new life on Sunday August 14th 2005.

A part of us goes with him, as he will be deeply missed. Luke was just waiting for his special people to find him, and find him they did. We couldn't be happier with his new home! He'll be in good hands :)

Thank you to the many people that followed Luke's story and donated to his care while he was with us. You are a huge part of Luke's success!

Update 2005

Hi Kelly.

Rita said I could use her email so I could send you a note to let you know that I'm doing okay (all the time we spent together and I bet you didn't know I could type, did you?).

It was fun to go for a walk with Rita, but I sure was surprised when we came back and you had left. I looked around everywhere for you, but I guess you've gone home. That made me sad, but these new people seem nice and I know you wouldn't have left me with them if they weren't. It seems weird being somewhere different, but they fed me and then we just went for another walk. so they can't be all bad.

Even that other old girl dog seems okay. She's being pretty nice to me, but is also making sure I know how things work here. Don't worry, I'm not letting her push me around. I think she's even starting to like me - must be my good looking smile.

Thanks for taking care of me for so long at your place and thanks for leaving your t-shirt here (it's a nice reminder). I've had to move so many times in my life, but if this is the last time then the long ride here was worth it -- a place to stay forever is all I've ever wanted and I sure am glad you helped me find it. I miss you. But if this is where I'm going to stay at last, then I think I'll be happy here.

Anyway, guess I should go for now. Hope your trip home wasn't too long. Say hi to Sam, DJ and the rest of the gang -- I hope they find their own forever homes too. Let them know I'll try to send pictures soon.

Rita says "hi" and said to thank you again for being so nice and for bringing me all the way here. It will take some time to get used to them and this place, but I know they're gonna take good care of me. So don't worry, because I'm going to be just fine.

Love,

Luke

2007 Update:

Luke is grand and enjoying a family life now as we recently began living with my boyfriend and his two lovely girls (11 & 12) at his house.  Cedar and Luke just love it here!  There is my love times 4 for those lucky pooches, as the girls and Paul are so loving and caring with the dogs.  They have a cute little "mutt" of their own that has bonded with Luke very well.  Her and Cedar merely accept one another, but that is fine.  :)

At the end of the cul de sac, there is a trail that links up to an old rail line that follows the river.  It is so beautiful, and the dogs look at me like "thank you thank you thank you" every time we go for a walk.  Luke and Paul have really bonded, and I think it may be because they realize they are outnumbered (they are the only "dudes" in the house).  This house has a cozy dog bed in just about every room, and the funniest thing is that Cedar tries to curl up into Koda's wicker basket, and Koda is maybe 1/10th the size of Cedar!  I've got to find a picture to share with you - too cute!

I've got to say, Luke saved my life, Kelly.  When things were the hardest for me, he was right there... licking away my tears, encouraging me to play, to go outside, to feel life.  I think he shares my joy in finding happiness again and sharing life with a beautiful family with so much love.  We have so much fun together.  Luke sometimes looks at me like "hey, whaddid I tell ya, girl?  see??", as though he knew all along.  hehe.

I'm so blessed to have him in my life.

Rita
