Baylee is a 7 - 8 year old female.

Dec. 14-05 ~ Baylee and another dog were reported to the local animal control as two strays that had been "found" in a person's yard. Once Animal control went to pick the dogs up and got them back to the shelter, they were able to trace the tattoos back to the same person that had called in to say they were strays.

When will people ever live up to the responsibility these animals require? Why is it always the most innocent that suffer at the hands of people like this?

It's just not possible to look at Baylee and keep the tears from rolling down your cheeks. It is not possible to look at her happy, trusting eyes and not want to weep for the lost years, the neglect and the true inner beauty that she holds. It's just not possible.

Baylee obviously has never known what it is to truly be loved and appreciated. Her obvious signs of neglect are saddening and unfair. Baylee deserves better. She will repay you endlessly with all the love she has to give.

There is absolutely no excuse for a dog to be left in this condition. What kind of person can look at her everyday and do nothing? There are certainly enough groups and means of support out there if finances were an issue.

The truth is, that Baylee just didn't matter enough to them.

They called her in as a stray, knowing that the pound would likely kill her. They couldn't even be bothered to hold her themselves while she passed.

GSRBC too Baylee into our care on Christmas eve of 2005. We worked on her to get her allergies under control. Once she was stable and making progress, she was moved into another of our foster homes for long term care.

While she continued to improve, it was a constant struggle. Her condition was left to go too long and we had a variety of skin infections to deal with including trying to find the source. Finally, with the help of a holistic vet, Baylee was getting much better. She is shown below with another foster pup, "Pepsi". A full coat, and in all her glory. Baylee is beautiful inside and out.

In March of 2006, the foster family officially failed fostering 101 and adopted Baylee into their hearts and home for good.

Baylee relapsed in the summer and was taken back for further testing.

Test results showed a number of new things she was allergic to, including her own fur!

Did the family give up and desert her? heck no! They are still going strong with the battle, and Baylee continues to improve everyday.

This is all she ever wanted. To be comfortable, to be loved and to have value.  She now welcomes Jerry into their home. Foster failure 102  :)

Big thanks to Brian and Janice for your great big hearts.

From Baylee's family:

Just a short note to let you know how Baylee is doing. We have kept her at Valley Vets as Mark has her full history. She started to lose ground again so we changed her antibiotics but it got worse. So she was reverting to elephant skin and chewing and licking herself al the time.

So Mark took blood and sent it to Toronto for a full allergy testing. When the results came back it shows she has many things she is allergic to including most meats, grasses, Soya, some vegetables and dog hair. Anyway we decided to follow Mark’s advise and got the Toronto folk to mix up the anti-allergy treatments aimed at her particular allergens. We started last Wednesday on a nine month course of treatment for her which involves injections every second day for two weeks then it goes to every third day, then to every five days and on to every ten days finally going to just once a month from October through to March 3rd 2007.

I was pleasantly surprised at the cost of the anti-allergy vaccine it was only $175 for the all three vials for the full treatment. Of course there is a clinic charge every time she gets injected but the whole thing will be under $500 which is really amazing. I just wish I could get the same thing done for my allergies at the same price.

I am truly grateful that she has come into our lives as she is such a great dog and has accepted the cats and the Chow as part of her pack. She loves to travel and has commandeered the settee in the motor home as her bed when we are on the road and as her night time perch as well.

Will keep you posted on her progress.

Brian
