Candy at the pound
|
Imagine being scared and alone, your entire future in the hands of busy, objective strangers, your thoughts and feelings unknown to them. That is the experience of many forgotten and neglected dogs who enter our program each year, and Candy is no different.
Candy is a beautiful 7 year old female, who was sitting at the local pound waiting to be a wonderful and loving companion to someone. She's very sweet and loves to be petted and talked to. Candy is house broken, is well socialized with other dogs and doesn't seem bothered by cats. She is enthusiastic about food in general, which we suspect is from having missed many meals. Candy's personality is shining through. There's a hint of a sense of humor emerging and a definite love for people. She is a very easy girl with little to no issues. She is an easy dog to handle and will give you back every ounce of love that you give to her. |

July 28th 2006 Candy is now in foster care on Vancouver Island. Thank you so much to Kerri-Lynne and her family for opening their hearts and home to help out this very sweet girl until a forever home can be found. Candy is being a good house guest and is getting along very well with the other dogs and cats too. She sleeps through the night happily and no accidents. She is so sweet and well mannered, recalls nicely!!! She is a very easy girl to have around. She sniffed the cat and then walked away and was cautious but calm around the horses. She has cleaned up nicely and doesn't mind you combing/bathing her. We are just so overjoyed that this girl has gotten another chance. She is safe now, but is still looking for that special place to call home. Please consider giving this extra special girl a place in your family. If you think you have the time, space and love for Candy, we would love to hear from you! August 22nd 2006 Candy is a very relaxed, easy-going, and good-natured dog. She wants to be your best friend and loves going for walks, hikes, swimming, or just to hang-out while you pick blackberries. She has very good listening skills and stays with you when off-leash. Due to her good health and shape, I would like to say Candy is around 5 and not 7 years old, as her previous owner mentioned.
She
is respectful and cautious of the horses, is not interested in the
cats, and would rather be with her human than with the other dogs
although she does love to play with the other dogs. As much as
she gets along with all other dogs, she does not like to be
"bossed" around (who does??) and will stand her ground.
Candy loves to play with her soccer ball and will retrieve it, but
rather than dropping it at your feet, she thinks it's funny to run
away and for you to chase her and try to get it from her. She
has a great sense of humor and is always smiling.
Candy
is very good about letting you bathe, brush, clean, and clip her
nails. She is relaxed in the house and lies down straight away.
She loves to hang-out at my my side while I do computer
work. She does not mess or chew anything and tries very
hard to be a good girl and live within the rules.
Candy
is one of the best behaved dogs I have ever fostered (and much better
behaved than some of my own crew)! I think Candy would thrive
best in a home that enjoys spending time outside (be it gardening or
going for a walk, hike or camping) and that loves to have her
alongside for their outings. She does require exercise but does
not need intense exercise to keep her happy. She is happiest
with her people!

Candy was adopted on October 6th to a wonderful single woman in Victoria, who was looking for a soft and gentle companion. They met and bonded right away. There will be no more lonely days for our sweet girl!
November 2006 Update: I just wanted to send you a brief update on Candy. I should mention I call her Santi (short for Santiago) now and like all things, she takes this in stride. She is a true sweetheart and I am so happy to have her.
She is doing extremely well. She
even finished top of her class at our dog training class-- yes, she
kicked butt-- and even developed a 'crush' on a 12 pound King Charles
dog. She wins people over quickly because she is so sweet and well
mannered.
As I am sure you know, Victoria is
in full winter mode right now and she loves the snow. We are out in it
every day and she plays with lots of other dogs. Life is great for
both of us.
I wish you much luck with your
continued rescue efforts and I sincerely hope for a wonderful home for
Clyde, your newest
rescue.
I also wanted to mention that The
Dog Listener is just about the best book I could have read and I thank
you for recommending it. It was transformative and we are doing very
well because of the insights I have learned from reading it.
Best wishes to you and all your
dogs!
From,
Kathy
May 2007 Update:
Santi and I are doing very well. She
is really wonderful and I am very happy to have her. She is at the off
leash park on Dallas Road almost everyday (except for the days I take
her swimming at Beaver Lake) playing with other dogs-- always with a
ball in her mouth. People know her because of the ball in her mouth and
for her sweet manner. She is super off leash and is getting more
comfortable with everything around her. She is happy, healthy, playful,
mellow, sweet, easy to direct, and just generally the most wonderful
first dog I could have ever hoped for... ahh...
Here's a few more recent pics of her
(and one of me).
I check your website every now and
then and continue to wish for happy endings for all the dogs you take
in. Have a blessed 2007.
Cheers,
Kathy
