Hi, my name is DeJay. If I must say so myself, I am one good looking fellow, but you won't know it unless you come and meet me, because I run and hide from the camera. It really scares me. :(
I am 3 years old and a very well-mannered boy for the most part. I know the commands sit, down, and stay. I will also try very hard to figure out anything else that you ask me to do. I am a very smart boy! My favorite activities are riding in the car, catching balls and playing with my other foster brothers. I am probably just a little TOO interested in the cats, so to keep everyone happy I should probably live in a feline free zone. I do take a few moments to warm up to strangers, but am a friendly guy to all I meet. I am an extreme head cocker too - I tip my whole head sideways when something catches my ear.

I bond very deeply, and am very much a one person dog. I hope someone will come along that will want me just for who I am, and will keep me forever.

DeJay was a stray that came into a shelter in the Okanagon. He is calm and very well-behaved in his GSRBC foster home, and fully house trained.

DeJay is a special looking, handsome boy with his black and buff coat. He weighs 73 stocky pounds. His foster mom is so very impressed with his good behavior. He is a good car rider, waits for an invitation to come back in the house, after he goes out to potty, and walks well on a leash.

DeJay came into our care on November 10th 2004. After a little more than a year with no particular interest, he was adopted January 1st 2006, by our GSRBC president.  As you can see, he is having a very hard life.

January 2007 - Update:

Just before DeJay came into our care, I was told that he "put 15 stitches into an SPCA employee", that he was "aggressive with other dogs", that he "lunged at and couldn't be trusted with children", that he "was fearful and reactive to men" and that he was basically a monster!

As DeJay was already in transport and on the way down, I was really expecting a huge gong show when he arrived! What was I in for?

He arrived, they opened the back of the truck and he licked my nose. lol!! I took him straight to the vet to be neutered, and once he was home, I was ready for any and all issues regarding this "beast of a dog". Poor DeJay, he never knew what hit him, as I anticipated his every possible move. Thing was, he was never anything but a sweetheart, and while he did have an issue with being grabbed around his neck, that was pretty simple to fix. Don't let stupid people grab his neck!

DeJay is my best friend, my ever present shot gun rider, the best cuddler in the world, and the best toe warmer on a cold winter day. He is a patient and willing foster friend to every dog that has come through my door during the last year. He shows them the ropes, and gets quite annoyed if they pee in the house. Go DeJay!  He is particularly great with puppies, and is very gentle with my two young boys.

DeJay has taught me to listen to what others have to say, then throw it out the window and go with my own assessment. If I had listened to even one of these other people, his very gentle heart would cease to exist, and I would not of been given the opportunity to share my life with such a devoted friend.
