December 2006 Adopted!
Well it has finally happened. Our favorite girl has finally found two hearts to match her own. People who think "she's brilliant", "she's funny", "she's such a love", "she blew wind so bad our eyes watered". ha ha.
A few months ago, Noelle had another potential adopter come and meet her. At that point, (after she fell over on her side and pretended to be dead the whole time this potential adopter was here) she let us know in no uncertain terms, that she would pick her own people, thank you very much. So much as is Noelle's way... *eye roll*
This past week, we had a phenomenal home apply to adopt Noelle, and nothing we could say about her could really phase them all that much, or turn them off. They understood her. Finally, someone besides us saw what a beautiful spirit she truly is...
I figured that I might as well take Noelle with me to do the home visit. I've come to learn that I'm really just the vessel to make sure that her choices are something that we can agree with too, so she might as well let us know from the get go just what the princess thinks. The home visit went so well, and Noelle was so taken with these people, that I decided to let her have a sleep over and see how she would be once I was gone.
Noelle spent the evening making googly eyes at her new "Dad". She's always been a Daddy's girl. While she definitely thinks the world of her potential new "mom", it is clear that for her, the sun rises and sets because of the new man in her life. Aw, Noelle, how can you be so willing to leave us after all this time?
Because it is right, that's why. This time, it is truly right for her, and we fully believe that there is nothing that Noelle could do that would ever make her new people want to give her up. They are prepared. They know. We've held nothing back, and even tried to scare them with stories of her behaviors. They took it all in stride. You see, they've already had a Noelle in their past, and they loved their girl a great deal. They are ready to give all the love they hold to a new companion.
They picked Noelle, and when she met them, it was like; "well where have ya been all this time?". We have never seen Noelle so taken with anyone. It's truly a match made in heaven, and Noelle will be leaving for her new life on December 21st. She will be home for Christmas. How fitting, since it is 3 years, almost to the day, that Noelle first entered into the shelter system. She was found as a stray and impounded on December 8th 2003 and taken to the Coquitlam animal shelter. They named her Noelle in the spirit of Christmas.
Noelle was officially transferred to GSRBC on July 3rd 2005 and with a lot of hard work and dedication on her part, she was finally ready for adoption a few months later.
You did it Noelle, and we are so proud of you! You will be deeply missed in our day to day lives, but we're all so happy for you to finally have a home and people of your own.
Noelle is a special girl. She is a loving spirit and she has so much love to give. She is a gift.
Good luck baby girl! Be happy, you deserve it... and mind your manners!

Update! (Yay, already!)
Well, it does appear that Noelle has settled in quite
nicely despite the fact that we've been on the go since we picked her up.
We just got back from Pender Harbour late last night, she has already figured
out that the family place up there is her home away from home. She got
along just fine with my mother-in-law's schnauzer Teddy, as well as my sister's
dog, d.o.g. (dee-o-gi). And any amount of my nephew's screaming, as seven
week olds are wont to do, didn't phase her one iota.
She is without a doubt the cuddliest dog either of us has ever known. Keep
thinking she should weigh about 20lbs because of this lap-dog/I'm the center of
the universe attitude. But she also listens pretty darn well - at least
most of the time ;^). She did show a bit of the bravado on our walks,
barking at out dogs, but it's definitely a case of bark rather than bite, if the
other dog didn't flinch, she quieted down in a hurry.
All in all, it's going very well and we are incredibly pleased with her. She is
still entirely gagga over Darrick, so she will obviously remain daddy's little
princess. They are still lying in bed enjoying an late
morning snooze as I write this.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and talk to you in the New Year!
