Sam cam into the care of GSRBC on February 12th 2004, from the Naniamo SPCA. He had previously been a yard dog in his former home and was surrendered when the family was moving.

When he came to us, he was bald from the shoulders back and had massive ear infections in both ears that had blown the eardrums and rested in behind the middle ear, causing him to constantly loose his balance.

His teeth were badly infected and all the front ones between the canines had to be taken out. Something we don’t often like to do, but in Sam’s case, it was the only option.

On top of the infections in his ears and mouth, Sam also wasn’t neutered, and his body could not keep up with the amount of testosterone that was in his system, and all three contributed to the constant hair loss.

Sam had a long journey back to get healthy again. He was neutered and had his teeth done immediately, but we struggled for a long time to get his ears under control. It was a nightmare of having him rechecked every week, and bathing him every 3 days. Sometimes he would be clear at the end of the week, and sometimes he would be full bore infected again, and went back under anesthetic for yet another ear flushing procedure.

Sam is a gentle giant. He gets along well with all other dogs and is fine with cats. He loves to get all goofy and play like a pup. He is a special soul and is looking for a home where he will be loved and valued. In return, he will give you love, laughter and loyalty for all of his days.

Sam steals the hearts of everyone that comes into contact with him. He has a very special way about him, and had quite the following while he was in our care. People were always emailing to ask for updates on Sam. I felt like his secretary!

He is beautiful inside and out, and his spirit shines through in everything he does. He loves deeply, his devotion is unwavering. Watching Sam play can so easily bring tears to ones eyes.

Sam was adopted on January 29th 2006. It literally broke our hearts to see him go, but we were so happy for Sam to have a home of his own.

He now lives with a little corgi girl and a few cats.

Enjoy the good life Sam. You deserve it!

Update January 28th 2007:

Sam is doing very well! He enjoys his friends; a corgi X girl and 3 pretty female cats. He enjoys hugging everyday; walking twice daily; playing with an assortment of toys and lounging on dog beds available to him in the bedroom, living room and basement. Sam loves to wrestle with his smaller dog pal. He is still amused and entertained by his cat sisters.

Sam's favorite thing to do in the warm weather is to take a nap under the trees in the yard. Everyday he watches for his human dad to arrive home and greets him noisily with his sing song welcome. I  work from home and they keep me all company during the day.

We can't believe what a great boy Sam is. So easy and gentle. He's been a great addition to our family, and we love him.
