Hi I'm Spencer.  They tell me I am about 6 months old (July 25th).  I was found taking myself for a walk down the road in a residential area. Animal control picked me up and no one has come looking for me. I guess they don't want me anymore.

I'm a good boy and I try very hard to please the people around me and figure out what it is that they want me to do! I am just a tiny thing, but am already house trained and my foster Mom is totally impressed by how good I am! Yay for me!

I'm having such FUN in my foster home. I really love to play in the pool and will amuse myself for quite a while chasing the splashes I make. My big huge paws fly up in the air and SLAP, I get those waves every time!

I looove to play with other dogs, like Noelle, who is here in my foster home. We're becoming very good friends and I think this is as good for Noelle as it is for me! The only thing I can't figure out is why those humans are always laughing at me. But it's all good, cause I usually get lots of cuddles when they do that. I LOVE being told what a good boy I am!

I'd love to belong to a really fun family that is active and wants to play ball with me, train me and most importantly, love me and never leave me. Another dog would be wonderful, as I do love to play.  I promise you, I will be devoted all the rest of my days.

Thank you so much to all Spencer's sponsors:

Spencer was adopted on September 24th to a wonderful family, who already had another dog for Spencer to play with.  We know that Spencer is home forever. He will never be given up or turned out. Here, he is valued and is a huge part of their family.

Update from Spencer's new home:

We are so Happy to have Spencer and he makes us laugh ever day (even if he has been bad, it is so hard to get mad it him!!!).  It has been a blessing for us and a joy and it has been wonderful for Halley.  I always new she would probably enjoy having a buddy but didn't realize just how much until Spencer got here!
Take care,
Megan

November update ~ Sad news:

I thought I would let you know.... Spencer had x-rays today and he has got a good case of hip dysplasia.  We will be seeing a surgeon to discuss our options relatively soon. He will not extend his legs back, noticed this when trying to dry off his feet.  Also a couple of time he has slipped and "split" his legs open and yelped.  So those two things were what had me worried and when we were last in the vet did a manual check and he really is tender on his back legs.... so today was an x-ray and though I am not trained, it does look to me like the ball is not sitting in the socket when his legs are extended.

We saw the surgeon and she was quite impressed that I even noticed anything at all.  Handling him she was able to notice that he was slightly tender to the right hip but not bad on the left.... Having said that she said she would now look at the x-rays and well.... the x-rays are the reason he we know he has hip dysplasia on both sides.  The right is definitely worse than the left.  As we both know (me mostly due to research on the net), it is best to have the surgery while he is young.

We are to monitor him for now and review the right hip in 6 months time (re x-ray then unless we notice some changes before then).  From there, the left hip is borderline for TPO and she feels that is best to let it be for now as well.  The vet feels the left hip should be good for 3-4 years before that one needs replacing as well.  And so it goes...

As for Spencer himself, he does not seem out of sorts right now.

He just keeps on trucking through all these checks.  He is such a happy boy!  My biggest fear is after the surgery and keeping him settled down.  We are going to try and figure out working from home and possibly bringing him into work as well so hopefully he won't be alone.  I think it is going to be so hard on him.  He is so attached to Halley now and I think keeping him from playing with her is going to be a tough call!  Everyone keeps telling us just how beautiful he is!  We are so blessed to have him in our lives!

When we mention he needs surgery, I would say more than 50% say "Why don't you give him back?".  I guess some people don't realize what an impact animals make in ones life or have the same affection towards animals.  He is a member of the family and if he were a human, I don't think anyone would be saying "Oh just give him back".

Thanks so much for caring about the big guy!  We love him to bits and pieces and will try to do what ever is best for him in the long run :).

The cost for Spencer's surgery has been quoted to be around 5000.00 for the first hip. This is quite the undertaking for Spencer's new family. GSRBC will assist Spencer and his family with medical costs when the time comes for him to have his surgery. Please keep our boy in your thoughts, and stay tuned for our fundraising efforts on his behalf!
