Maya came into our care from the local pound. She was picked up as a stray, and her owners never came to claim her.

Lucky for Maya, Ruth & Dennis, who previously adopted Chase, were looking to add to their family.  They came out and met her, and immediately were taken with her.

Maya was officially adopted on May 16th when her spay was completed. She is a wonderful girl, and we're so happy she got a wonderful home!

Update:

Maya is growing – almost as tall as Chase, but still has to put on more weight. She is a little charmer as well as a thief. She takes things that are not hers, but does not destroy them – just moves them around. Case in point –she has a kennel that she uses for quiet time and to have her meals in. I just went to get her empty bowl to put it in the dishwasher and what do I find in the kennel? – Ruth’s purse. She is still fascinated with Bess (the cat), but there is no aggression. Bess on the other hand is still cautious around her but they are ‘rubbing’ noses. Chase and Maya are constantly playing and Ruth has no back garden left.

It would appear that Maya probably spent a lot of time with other pups as she is constantly drawn towards other dogs as opposed to people. If you may remember, she had filthy ears when we first saw her. Although I cleaned them all the time, I decided that she probably had a case of mites or a yeast infection. So we took her to our Vet who examined her. She did have a yeast infection which has now cleared up. As far as her age, he said she was probably between 6-10mths old. We felt that according to her behavior she is around 8 months old. She also had her vaccinations.

This past Monday I started formal obedience classes with her and although we missed a week, she was certainly up there with the leaders. She is more inquisitive than Chase and seems to figure things out faster than he does. I know, she is a female – say no more. So obviously we are now keeping her. But you knew that anyway ( Ruth did and she kept telling me that “Kelly knows that anyway”).

By the way, Chase is starting to ‘pee’ like a boy

We were very impressed with the service at your local clinic and their follow up. Her sutures from her spay can be removed this coming week-end. I just spoke with the clinic and they have no objection if we take her to our local veterinarian to remove them.

Dennis
