But in the place that Anya and May come from, conditions are far worse than most of us can even imagine, or want to imagine. Things that happen to animals there are beyond most of the public's comprehension. They shock the soul, and send any animal loving person to tears. It is not possible to turn away.

Our hope is that one day the government of Taiwan will make some drastic changes to help those most helpless in their region. Only the laws will protect them. Until then, they will continue to suffer horrific deaths.

Until then, Anya, May and all the others like them will have to continue to rely on the good hearts of the hard working rescue people down there to find them, save them, nurse them back to health and find them homes where they can have value.

Anya is one of the lucky ones. Towards the beginning of June she will follow May and also fly to Canada, into our waiting arms. We will take this beautiful girl and find her the best home possible. The garbage dump and the family that dumped her will be nothing more than a distant memory.

Anya deserves no less.

Anya is a beautiful girl who was abandoned by her owners at the garbage dump. The GSD is loyal to it's people, even to it's detriment.

Anya stayed exactly where they left her, and waited for 4 days for them to come back and get her. One always has to wonder what goes through the minds of these lost souls while they wait and hope.

We've seen it time and time again, when they finally realize their owners are not coming back. The day they get that is truly the most heartbreaking of all.

You know, they'd give their lives for us. They are that innocent. Yet the human race continually throws them away like trash, or does the most hideous acts of cruelty to them. What makes a person that heartless?

Here in BC, we see cruelty. We read about it in the papers or see it on the news or watch it on Oprah. Our dogs are put to death in shelters every day. They die by lethal injection. Most times with at least a stranger by their side to help them pass. This is *our* reality.

Anya's rescuers have been doing a very good job with her. She currently lives at the vet clinic, but is taken out as much as possible to enjoy some time out of her kennel.

She is a good girl, listens well and gets along with other dogs. Anya is around 3 - 4 years old, and does have minor hip dysplasia in her right socket. She will require moderate exercise and would not be a good match for a family that wants a jogging partner.

Today we have many more resources available to us to maintain these kinds of conditions. We've had many a dog come through that were so bad off, and after starting a series of cartrophen shots, they were able to run and play and really enjoy their lives.

Anya's case of HD is minor and she will respond well to treatment.

Currently, Anya's rescuers are looking for two things: First, someone flying from Taipei to Vancouver that Anya can buddy with (to get a cheaper rate) and dollars for the air fare.

We have no doubts that these people will raise the funds they need to get Anya on that plane. They are a mighty little force with huge hearts! But there are not many resources there for them to raise these funds so they are putting in money from their personal funds. They are asking for help from those in their own area, and have not asked us for funds. They are proud people, but ashamed of what is going on around them. They want to support Anya to come to Canada.

If you would like to sponsor Anya to get here by donating to her air fare, please contact us or see our sponsor page for more information on how to donate. We will ensure that the funds go to the cost of Anya's flight.

We will post when the goal has been reached, and what day Anya is to arrive.

July Update!

I'm beside myself with how easy she is!

I took her for a short walk first thing this morning and within minutes she was no longer pulling on the leash.  She is so gentle and easy to correct.  She "gets it" after just a couple of corrections.  After that the rest of the walk, she would move maybe 2 steps ahead of me then drop back - always making sure the leash didn't go tight.
Last night I had her on the leash in our backyard and on the other side of the fence she heard something.  It was dark so I couldn't see anything but I could see all the hair on her back was standing up.  I had the leash loose so I wasn't showing any reaction to whatever was there, and she would look at me as if to see if she should do something.  I then saw it was a neighbor shepherd and I just quietly told her to go home.  If it was Codi, she would have gone lunging toward the fence, dragging me with her - lol!

She's been an absolute dream so far and I don't anticipate anything it being any other way.

I'm keeping her quiet and letting her get lots of rest for her incision.  Anytime I'm sitting down, she soon lays down and the eyes close - she's probably catching up on any missed sleep she needs.

I'll be introducing her to Dave's parents today and I have a line up of people who can't wait to meet her.

Thanks again!

Bev

Hey Kelly!
Finally, here's some pics of our new GSD girl, Anya :).
She's a real snuggle bug!  I have a hard time taking pics as she wants to be so close to you, each time I move away to take a pic, she comes running up to me!

One of the pics is her settling down to a good chew on her bone after reading the latest GSRBC Newsletter :).

As you can also see, Dave was the first to have her up on the couch with him.  I came home from traveling to find them like that, so I had to take that pic!

She's doing great.  She had her stitches out yesterday and all is well - the vet said she was great with them (I expected as much, but it's nice to hear it confirmed).
She has met a lot of our friends and they all love her!  She has also met the neighbor dog but isn't at all interested in her.

I can't tell you how amazing she is!  I'm waiting for her to do something "dog-like", otherwise she is the dreamed of "perfect dog".
I haven't even heard her bark yet - nothing but happy greetings, thumping tail wags, kisses and snuggling right beside us on the couch!

I'm teaching her patience - waiting before getting her food, waiting before going in the house.  She exhibits some behavior of a dog who has been quite hungry, as waiting for her food is a challenge for her, but she's understanding.

We'll be taking her camping in a couple of weeks, so will send more pics when I can.

Take care!
Bev
