It is not hard to see that Couper is proud and regal. A stunning boy who is a wonderful and faithful companion. The breed is very intelligent and Couper is no exception. He is eager to please those he trusts, though is suspicious of strangers. But once a friend, always a friend... so much as is the GSD way. ;) With an experienced owner, Couper will continue to thrive. He is not a dog for the first time GSD owner, as Couper does have some prey drive and that needs to be understood. He has previously chased moving objects before, so his new people should be aware of, and comfortable with this trait of the breed. Getting Couper into herding exercises or tracking would be ideal, as he could let some of that out in an appropriate way and have some fun doing it too!
While Couper is not a super active dog, he is still a dog that would love to have a moderately active home with someone that will do something with him and keep that good old brain of his active. He would make an excellent obedience dog if someone were to take an interest in competing with him in the CKC ring. He is very biddable, and has a good, good heart. He is very much enjoying his time at his foster home. He and Zeeva have a love affair going! Well...... rather Zeeva is in love with Couper (and really, who wouldn't be?) and while he will play with her, he mostly just tolerates her and her puppy ways. ;)

Introducing RiverRyan's
Coupe DeVille aka "Couper". Couper and Iris recently found themselves at the pound after getting out of their owner's yard. After being picked up this second time, the owner/breeder could not afford to claim them from the pound. Iris' co-breeder (Brookswood Shepherds) stepped up to the plate immediately and worked with us to find her a home. Unfortunately, Couper's co-breeder (Rockannand) refused to help him, as she has done every other time we have asked her. This is the difference between a responsible breeder and a ... non-responsible one folks! If breeders can't stand behind their dogs, then they shouldn't be breeding! Too bad, because Couper is a very nice boy, and very deserving of a second chance. He is a beautiful sable boy, who will be 5 years old on May 11th 2007. (He came into care with his CKC papers). He was apparently raised with a family of 3 kids, two cats, snakes and other reptiles in the house. Couper is a confident boy, but also very happy and wiggly with those he knows and trusts.
Couper's Foster writes: Couper
is the perfect house guest. He
is handsome, respectful, gentle, calm, and cuddly.
What more could you ask? Having
recovered easily from his neutering we are working on basic obedience;
healing on and off leash, sit, stay, down, stand and recall.
Couper is eager to learn. He
is curious of his new surroundings but prefers to stay close to his foster
mom right now. Couper is full
of fun and always wanting to please. Couper is patient and gentle with his very keen 2 year old house mate. He is playful but gentle with her. Couper meets new people calmly and warms up to them quickly. New dogs that we meet he greets easily and then moves on.
Couper is enjoying his training and is very good at picking up new commands and hand signals. He is a dog that bonds so very deeply to his people, and is always eager to please. This is not to say that Couper is without a few quirks of his own! He still has a mischievous side, and gave his foster mom a good laugh when she came home to him covered in feathers from a duvet, and Couper sitting looking at her quite innocently, trying to blame Zeeva. haha. Good thing his foster mom has a sense of humor too! She went running for the camera instead of giving him heck! Couper is a good dog, he deserves a great home, and nothing less will do.

Special Thank you to all Couper's sponsors:
Update!:
Couper is getting a long walk every day and lots to
eat, so I think he will start to fill in a bit fairly soon. We met one of
the neighbors dogs today and will gradually increase contact. I worked
with his obedience again today and feel he would come even now if he were
loose but will wait for a while yet. When called now Couper comes bounding
toward you but tends to want to play rather than stop in front! |
