Adopted!!

GSRBC was called about this little girl, and we luckily had a foster home open and ready for her to go to.  She was spayed right away, and then wisked away to Victoria with her foster Mom.

Since Ellie has come into our care, we have learned that someone has not been very kind to her. She is very worried about doing the wrong thing, and is surprised when the world doesn't come crashing down around her when she makes a mistake.

We believe this was just environmental, and is not Ellie's true temperament. In the short time she has been with us, she has made leaps and bounds in her confidence, and is eager to trust.

Ellie will likely always be a more submissive girl though. She is happy to be happy, and happiest when you are happy.

She gets along easily with other dogs, and wants no trouble in that department, though once she gets comfortable, she will let them know that she is not a push over.

Ellie is not quite ready for adoption, as she is still healing from her spay. However, we are accepting applications in the mean time.  Ellie will be ready to go to her new home after February 15th.

She will do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who can provide the training, socialization and guidance this pup needs.

A home where at least one person is home during the day would be best suited for this girl.

We do not yet know how Ellie is with cats and small animals.

Special thanks to all Ellie's sponsors:

Ellie is a 5 month old (Feb 1st) female shepherd mix.

Poor Ellie has not had the best of luck so far, and was in a home that was leaving this girl out in the snow and ice in their back yard. After the neighbors started to complain to animal control about her constant crying, she was eventually surrendered by her owners.

Ellie has had a lot go on in a short amount of time. She was taken from the the home she knew (albeit, not a great one) and landed down at the pound, where everything is very noisy and very stressful for a young girl.

The staff felt sorry for her and kept her up front for a time in the office crate. Ellie did much better, but it was still just too much commotion for this little girl to deal with. She would be so happy when someone let her out, and would come out on her belly, with her tail wagging and crawl into someone's lap for protection.

Ellie's foster writes:

"Today is grooming day, Ellie watched with great excitement as my dog, Mas was brushed, even ran off with tuffs of his hair from time to time.  When it was Ellie's turn she laid there and let me brush her (no surprise there).

Ellie has discovered the Kong ball...some will agree that it is like a vital organ for some (ok most) GSDs :) There was no way that big ole shepherd was getting his ball back.

Ellie especially likes to carry soft things in her mouth.  The doggie towel is her favorite to bring to me.  Fuzzy pink slippers are making their way up on the list too!

Ellie has a heart of gold.  She is desperate to please and not make any mistakes.  She seems to know her name.  I tested a few time by calling out other names, including her k9 house mate, she responded to her name quite well.
She is very curious.  Checking out all the furniture and stuff.  Oh and she is mesmerized by the TV.  She sits next to me watching it.

June 2008 ~ Update!!

Just thought I'd update you on how Ellie is doing. She's really settling in now and has started her training with Canine Chaos.  They are very positive and she loves going to the lessons.  She learns very quickly and is very smart and cheeky which keeps us on our toes.  She's also keeping us well exercised that's for sure! Ellie loves my mom and is happy to be home with her when we are at work. She's quite gentle with her.

Today when my mom was taking a nap Ellie just hopped in bed with her for a snuggle. She walks with Les first thing in the morning and then Les and I take her out for 45 min -
1 hour when we get home. Sometimes we even fit in a quick walk just before bed time. Great stress reducer for us.

Ellie loves meeting the dogs and people on our walks, and has learned our routine walks and eagerly leads the way. She has adjusted to life with noisy birds, and she's even friendly towards cats ... As long as they don't run away ;-)  Our friends love her too.  She's so friendly and doesn't bark when people come over. We are so lucky to have her.

She's a real dream of a dog. We love her very much and can't imagine what life was like before we had her... Although I think it was quite a bit 'quieter' ;-)

Looking forward to seeing you on the 26th at 6 mile pub.  I'm still 'stalking' the website often.  You do such amazing work. I'm so glad there are people like you out there to save these incredible dogs from lives of misery.

Take care,

Madeleine and Les :-)
