Anton is roughly about 2 - 3 years old, but he could be a little younger though. He has been diagnosed with a mild to medium case of hip dysplasia and is currently on a careful regime of diet and moderate exercise. Anton is not a dog for agility nor would he be good for a running partner. A couple of nice walks and maybe a few minutes throwing the ball is enough for this boy. A moderately active home would be a great match.

GSRBC would like to thank Lynnette and family for once again opening their home and their hearts to a dog in need.

Now that Anton is in our care, he will be started on cartrophen injections and able to get off the cold cement, which was not helping him at all.

He LOVES his new raw diet! Can't seem to believe his good luck actually! This will help to improve his over all condition, and really will make a huge difference to his coat.

Special thanks to the staff at this shelter, who all cared a great deal about Anton! He has stolen the hearts of more than a few employees and volunteers.

GSRBC will have Anton in to our vet early next week and will be able to get a good picture on what is going on with his hips and legs. Anton is seriously under weight, so this could have something to do with his wobbly stance.

If you are looking for a wonderful companion to share your life with, apply to adopt and give this boy a forever home!

We think Anton is worth it, and hope you will too!

Anton knows how to sit, lie down and come on command.  He takes treats ever so gently.  He makes no attempt to interfere with the other dogs at dinner time.  He is very definitely housebroken.  It seems that someone spent some time training this boy, and we can't understand why they would give him up.

We crate Anton when we're not at home because he's still young, and we it is possible he would do some chewing while unattended.  We will wait a while before starting to leave him out for a few minutes at a time.  He is happy to pick up shoes left lying around the house and has chewed a few.  He seems to select only shoes belonging to the family member with the smelliest feet.  Hmmmm...  Needless to say the house is cleaner now that everyone is putting their stuff away!

Anton has a good selection of toys and is learning what he can chew and what is off-limits.

Anton is a big, lovable, goofy dog.  He is extremely affectionate and eager to please.  He still has a lot to learn, but he will be a wonderful companion for one very lucky family.

We'd like to introduce you to Anton!

This loving boy was in the shelter system for quite a while, and GSRBC has been asked for assistance. Anton was quickly going downhill in the shelter environment and was becoming harder and harder to place the more stressed out he got!

We are happy to report that Anton came into our care today, October 28th 2008.

Here, Anton will learn to live with other dogs, have good house manners and get some much needed obedience into him.

Anton had a big day today. He met several different GSRBC dogs, with varying temperaments, and while he did react at first, he settled easily and even tried to play with one of our resident dogs.

He's just a young punk, who doesn't know what to do or how to act in many different situations. He'll learn ;)

Anton with his special friend at the shelter.

Anton is a fantastic dog! He is smart, loving and eager to please. He takes direction well, and settles down quite nicely once he is away from the shelter.

He can be a little reactive at first upon meeting other dogs, but after being shown the ropes and what is expected, he is ready to give that up and becomes more curious than anything else.

His reactions are mostly fear based and built on negative reinforcement at his kennel door.  He will do just fine with a competent handler.

Today is day one; Stay tuned for updates and more pictures of this beautiful boy :)

November 15th ~ Update

We are willing to bet that if you saw Anton in the shelter and met him again after a week in his foster home, you would not believe it was the same dog!

Anton has learned good behavior and by day three this "reactive" dog had earned free-roaming privileges in the house.  As I write this, he is snuggled up next to the other dogs beside me.  They all get along beautifully.

Anton still had to learn how to behave in public.  The first few dogs he met were greeted with barking and lunging, but fortunately their owners were very understanding when I explained that Anton was fresh from the shelter and  lacking manners.  He is getting much better, although I keep my eyes open and a firm grip on the leash in case he forgets.

Anton's first big test came Friday at doggy daycare, where he spent a full day while his foster mom was at work.  Here's what Downtown Dogs put on his report card:
"Anton did much better than we were prepared for - we didn't see ANY aggression , just a little uncertainty.  With time we think he will be doing great! :)"

This kind of socialization is just what Anton needs, so we'll be taking him to daycare on a regular basis.

January 13th 2009 ~ Update

Well, well, well! This special boy has found his place in this world with one of our very own board members! Who would of thought that the one she was hesitant to take, would end up stealing all their hearts?

Yes, it's true! Anton has proven to be the one that they just can't let go of! We can certainly see why of course :)

She said "In fact, he fits in so well in our family it seems like he's always been here."

Music to our ears :)

Welcome home Anton. Welcome home... You are right where you should be!

Special thank you to all Anton's sponsors:
