July 24th ~ Update Darby has been a complete pleasure to have around, and is now ready to go out into foster care and learn to be a house dog while he waits for his perfect match to come along and find him. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, is neutered, and is enjoying life with many dogs to keep him company, but really loves people the best. He loves a good ear scratching and is tolerant of being held and brushed. He's only been with us a couple of weeks and he is adjusting nicely. Once he settled in, he has become a bit jumpy, but we are working on this. All in all, we are over the moon for this big lug with the huge heart! In another week he will head over to Pender Island and spend some time in his new foster home, but he'll be back for our meet & greet adoption days on the 29th, so be sure to come out and meet this sweetheart!
August 15th ~ Update Darby is settling very well into his new environment after 10 days. He is such a playful puppy! Darby loves to play with his foster dad and is so very eager to please. He does become a bit anxious when someone leaves but is building his confidence within the house. We are experiencing many new sights and sounds. Sometimes crowds are a bit much for him but he quickly settles when he sees the people he knows.
November 1st 2009 ~ update We are happy to report that Darby has found his match!! After many applications, Darby has found the perfect match for him and he is off to his very bright future! Special thanks to Andrea & Paul for giving Darby a great life from here, and to Gerry & Tim, for opening your hearts to be broken once again. Enjoy the good life Darby! You earned it! |
Likely dumped on the back roads of Langley, Darby came to
us after he wandered onto a lady's private property and decided that would
be his new home.
However, they weren't able to keep him and got in touch with us to see if we could help. I went out to get Darby that day, and saw a shell of a dog. He was matted all over, emaciated, filthy, and stunk to high heaven. He was in such bad shape, and his teeth were horrible, that I actually mistook him for a senior! I helped him get into my truck, and took him home. Darby was neutered the following day, and dental followed the next week. I laugh now that I ever thought he was an old boy, as Darby is still a pup, he is no more than 18 months old, and is the silliest, goofiest boy around. He is a big boy, weighing 88lbs, and severely underweight. His ideal weight will be somewhere around 100 - 105lbs. He is a great big oaf of a dog that loves deeply and wants to please. He gets on with almost all dogs, but can be a bit pushy in his play.
September 2009 ~ update Darby is enjoying all the new sights and sounds he is experiencing in foster care. He continues to politely greet people and "laps up" their attention. Everyone he meets falls immediately
in love with him! Darby enjoys playing with dogs of all shapes and sizes. He demonstrates some
prey drive so we are careful that he does not get carried away with games of chase. However, he has met his match with
Hailey and they wrestle for hours. |

**We feed a raw diet to our rescues. This cuts down on the amount of medical attention they need, as well as makes them all around healthier. The cost to feed one dog for one month is roughly 102.08 **If you are able to buy one months worth for one dog, it would greatly lessen the load. Please specify which dog it is that you would like to feed, and we will show your pledge on each dog's page. This special sponsorship is called "Foster Partner in Care" and simply means that you are part of the foster program for the dog of your choice. One home supplies the shelter, and the other supplies the food. Many people want to help, but have no room in their homes to do so. This is the perfect way to be involved with the animal of your choice and be updated regularly on their care and well being. It's a win-win for everyone, especially the dogs! For more information, please see our Sponsor program For further information on any of our rescue dogs please email us But before you do, PLEASE read our adoption procedures under How to Adopt
We are a registered non-profit Charity as of April 1st 2005 |
