Once Ebony settled into our care, we began to start her in her basic obedience. We were happy to see that she knows almost all of her commands already, and is fairly reliable with them! yay! Some of the work has already been put into her! She will need some fine tweaking to get her rock solid, but a few more lessons and she will be ready for competition if someone wanted to go that way with her. Ebony has a lot of energy and becomes frustrated if her needs are not met on a daily basis. She LOVES to play fetch and run around like a silly goose. She'd be a great jogging or hiking partner and would likely enjoy agility or some other doggy exercise routines. Her new owners must be confident
leaders and continue to socialize her to other dogs and the world at
large. She is a biddable girl, and wants to please, but has not been
shown what is expected of her until now.

Ebony has come to us from the Calgary Humane Society. She
is 3 years old, spayed, housetrained, crate trained and up to date on all
her vaccinations.
Ebony arrived in our care October 30th and has done exceptionally well this last month. The shelter had warned us that Ebony came with some dog aggression issues, and true enough, she was a little hard headed! However, we found Ebony's reactions to be fear related, and she had a basic lack of socialization and manners with other dogs. She had absolutely no idea on how to great another dog, so she reacted first and asked questions later. She can still be somewhat of a goon when meeting a strange dog, but facing the fears and learning the appropriate way to meet others is coming along nicely. She no longer flies through the air like an orangutan, but does still bark and put up a small fuss when she first spots them. She was fresh out of the gate at our last adoption day, so that was a BIG learning day for her! And of course, kept all of us on our toes! Check it out: (special thanks to Patricia & Mark)
November 31st ~ Update Ebony is doing so well, and we are very proud of her. She is trying so hard! She loves to cuddle, loves to play with the other dogs and truly believes that the world is her oyster :) She can be very energetic when she is outside playing, and really does love her outside time! Oblivious to the weather, she immediately gets zoomies as soon as she hits the back step! She is almost always the one that will come in soaked from head to toe, whether or not it is raining! She sure is a sweet girl, and interacts well with everyone! She is now even submitting to the other resident dogs when they think she needs to chill out. |

Ebony's favorite friend is Gunnar (picture two twirling
blurs at high speed) and while she would love to play with and be
friends with Cargo, Cargo
is having none of it. I guess in Cargo's eyes, there is only room for
one beautiful black diva around here.
Undaunted, Ebony goes on with the show and will every once in a while try again with Cargo to see if she has gotten over herself yet. Ebony is very persistent, and Cargo is coming around. Ebony's adoption flyer available for download: |
Ebony is ready for adoption and would do best in a GSD experienced home. Preferably a feline free zone, as she does have some healthy prey drive and wouldn't be a good match for cats. While she is a happy and loving girl, she will continue to need firm leadership and continued socialization. The pay off is a stunning, well rounded, biddable girl who is full of life and looking for a deep and lasting bond with her people. Please contact us for an application if you are interesting in adding this special girl to your home. |

**We feed a raw diet to our rescues. This cuts down on the amount of medical attention they need, as well as makes them all around healthier. The cost to feed one dog for one month is roughly 102.08 **If you are able to buy one months worth for one dog, it would greatly lessen the load. Please specify which dog it is that you would like to feed, and we will show your pledge on each dog's page. This special sponsorship is called "Foster Partner in Care" and simply means that you are part of the foster program for the dog of your choice. One home supplies the shelter, and the other supplies the food. Many people want to help, but have no room in their homes to do so. This is the perfect way to be involved with the animal of your choice and be updated regularly on their care and well being. It's a win-win for everyone, especially the dogs!
