June 24th ~ Update

Cargo has arrived into our care this afternoon! After a much needed rest, we will start working on those mats tomorrow and follow up with a nice warm bath. Soon she will be shining like a new penny!

We are very happy we could offer Cargo one of our spaces. She is a lovely girl and will come around very quickly. Once she is spayed, she will be looking for that perfect home.

Cargo LOVES her pool!!

September 18th ~ Update

After 4 months of being in GSRBC's care, Cargo's breeder decided that she would like to have her back. Apparently one of her clients saw Cargo posted here and contacted her to tell them. Embarrassment? Reputation? whatever it is, they would now like her back....

Being as we believe this breeder was contacted on two separate occasions, when Cargo was surrendered to the shelter, and she didn't come and get her - Given the shape that Cargo was in when she was surrendered (physically, medically and emotionally) to the shelter, and given the type of home that she was originally sold into with little follow up, and no concrete contract to protect her future, GSRBC will not be releasing Cargo back to the breeder.

It's not even the fact that we have spent a substantial amount of money on Cargo's medical, food and housing. It is the fact that we have spent four months rehabbing this girl, and she has made phenomenal progress while she has been with us. We know the kind of home she needs, and as has always been GSRBC's way - we will find her that perfect home, and will not let her go until we do.

It has been a merry-go-round of threats and emails, and sadly, for Cargo, this means that she will likely be with us much longer than she needs to be, as we will have to try to weed through the applications that come with ulterior motives. It is too bad that Cargo's breeder did not work with us to find Cargo that amazing place and support her care while she was with us.

We're sad for Cargo, but we'll muddle through this storm as well, and in the end, Cargo will indeed find that place that will be perfect for her.

Thank you to everyone that this breeder has asked to email us. GSRBC has always advocated for breeders to be responsible for their dogs. In fact, we have gone to great lengths to get breeders to take their dogs back in and stand behind them! However, in this case, Cargo will not be returned to this breeder.

Thank you.

November 30th ~ Update

Well, Cargo has been a real peach since Ebony arrived. Weird, since she usually LOVES females. Maybe it is the look a like thing. who knows, but no matter how hard Ebony tries, Cargo will not be her friend. It's a little bit funny when Ebony goes over and pokes Cargo. Cargo recoils her shoulder away and looks at Ebony like "eww, don't touch me, don't look at me, don't stand by me, don't play with me, don't breath" .

She caught herself almost playing with her yesterday and then had a fit about it. Plus, Ebony has taken over playing with her favorite friend, so now she really is disgusted with the whole mess!

She will come over and sit in front of me and look at me then look at them and back at me again, like "WHY?". Haha. Well, she is not aggressive with Ebony, so the fact that she doesn't like her, is ok.

But Ebony is hard not to love, and she is working double time to win Cargo over. She'll win... she's persistent ;)

Other than that, Cargo continues to be her sweet little self and continues to steal the hearts of all she meets. She's had a couple of 'almost' homes, but in the end it didn't work out (nothing to do with Cargo) and she continues to seek that perfect home for her.

January 2010 ~ Update

Well, little miss Mary sunshine has gone off in a trial adoption for a few days.

Great people, and a great fit for Cargo! She is already loved to pieces, and has a new brother that she is working on warming up to. He, of course is already over the moon for her! But not necessarily in the most appropriate way. No matter, Cargo will put him in his place soon enough, and once she lets him know the ground rules, everything will fall into place.

She is dearly missed around our home with her silly antics and goofy ways. Cargo has finally come into her own and the timing of her pending adoption could not be more perfect!

She has become quite the social little butterfly these last couple of months. A far cry from when she first came into our care.  As hard as it is to see them leave us, it is so rewarding to know that when they do, they will be safe for life.

So as long as Cargo and her new doggy friend get on ok, Cargo has indeed found her home, and they were definitely worth the wait!

Enjoy the good life Cargo! You've earned it!

Cargo is a 2½ year old spayed female. She is registered with CKC as "Snowy Creek's precious Cargo".

So precious that she wasn't claimed from the shelter, and she is about to make her way to BC into our care.

July 4th ~ Update

Cargo has done amazingly well these last 10 days. She has been to the vet and is now spayed and is recovering nicely.

Our groomer also came out and spent many hours here working on the dogs. She spent most of her time with Cargo, as she was matted to the bone. Cargo is now all clean and fluffy and mat free! She feels so good she doesn't know what to do with her little self!

But she soon found something to do! (see left)

And then her and Izzy met and hit it off right away. It's like they have known each other forever, and are just the best of friends! (who needs those stinky boys anyway?)

Cargo is a sweet girl, and is having the time of her life!

August 21st ~ Update

Cargo has been such a pleasure to have with us. She is sweet and friendly and has gotten along with everyone she meets. She will, at times, try to boss new dogs around, but she quickly gives it up and is much more interested in play. In the end, she usually ends up being the submissive one.

Her best friend is Izzy, who we are sure she will sorely miss next week when Izzy goes to her new home. But Cargo has a lot of other friends here and she will be kept busy, that is for sure! She is somewhat of a tomboy and always into something! It would be nice if she would stay clean for just a few days after her bath!

Cargo has started in her basic obedience, and knows, "watch me", "off" "take it" and "sit". She is very obedient, and eager to learn.

Cargo is very much one of those one person dogs. Once she is bonded, it is all about her person, and she barely gives anyone else the time of day.

Her new home must be willing to carry on with her obedience and socialization. We would prefer that Cargo goes to a home that has another dog around her age, and someone that is either home during the day, or able to take her to work with them.

She is a sweet little package at only 45lbs, and is a very small girl for her breed. People are often surprised when they see how tiny she is!

October 31st ~ Update

We didn't get any resolution with Cargo's breeder, we never heard back from her. So we are attempting to post Cargo once again and will work to find her that perfect match.

Cargo continues to do well, despite all the adjustments she has gone through lately. She is a happy and animated girl who thinks she is a lap dog!

She recently got to see Izzy again and was SO happy to see her dear friend that she went bounding out all full of smiles and energy! Izzy on the other hand was not over the moon to see Cargo again with all her bouncy behaviors!

Cargo sat there for a while, tilting her head from side to side, wondering what was up with Izzy and why wasn't she the same as the last time she saw her? A lot has changed for Izzy, and she no longer remembered her bond with Cargo.

Cargo hung her little head and went back in the house after Izzy growled at her! Well, no matter, there are other friends to play with and Cargo never stays down for long! haha

Cargo keeps wooing the crowds wherever she goes, and she will be a wonderful addition to an equally wonderful home!

She is working on her basic obedience and doing very well!

If you are looking for a small girl, with a good heart, Cargo is your girl!

Cargo had great fun at our last adoption day and gained many more admirers. Check it out:

December 2009 ~ Update

Well Cargo wasn't sorry to see Ebony move on to her new home, that is for sure! In fact, she considered it a personal Christmas gift to her little ol' self. Good riddance she said, and then she continued on as normal.

Cargo has really come out of her shell this last month. She is eagerly greeting strangers, approaching all on her own, with tail wagging and trust in her eyes. It's been so wonderful to see her confidence grow.

In every day life we've seen a big change in her as well. Cargo seeks me out to play, and gets all spun out into zoomies when you pretend to get her. She loves it and becomes a whirlwind of black fur flying around!

Having the other dogs around her has really boosted her confidence and to see Cargo go to a home without another dog would surely be a disservice to her. She would likely regress and be quite lost.

We've been getting quite a few applications from out of our local area, as well as some with young children. Cargo is not available to a home with children under 10 years old, and even then, we would have to consider that heavily. She doesn't much care for children, she prefers the company of adults.

As well, we would like to see Cargo get a home that is more local to us, as we would like to be close by for any follow up she may need in her new home.

Cargo has had many 'almost' homes, but in the end, they have not been the best match for her. She is looking for that solid gold home, and we know that it's out there, and like all the other wonderful homes our dogs have gone to, Cargo's will be worth the wait as well.

Special thanks to all of Cargo's sponsors for helping her along the way!
